Celebrate Canada’s Flag: February 15th is National Flag of Canada Day
January 30, 2007

February 15th is National Flag of Canada Day. It marks the day in 1965 when our red and white maple leaf flag was first raised over Parliament Hill in Ottawa and in hundreds of communities from coast to coast. Canada’s new government encourages youth to get out and celebrate this day by doing the following:

-Invite your community newspapers, television or local cable stations to cover your event so that friends and neighbors can see how you celebrate Flag Day.

-Get in touch with the management of your local shopping mall and ask that the flag be displayed throughout the mall in the week leading up to Flag Day.

-Combine your celebration of the flag’s birthday with a celebration of the Canadian winter season. Wave your flag at your community’s winter festival, have your coach hand out Canada flag pins to your hockey team, organize a snow-sculpting party at your local park around a maple leaf theme.

-Ask your municipal officials to designate February 15th as National Flag Day in your community and participate in a flag raising ceremony.

Our flag! Our pride! Celebrate it!
