Vienna, Ontario– On behalf of the Honourable Beverley Oda, Minister of Heritage Canada, Joe Preston MP for Elgin Middlesex London announced funding of $14, 300 for the Edison Museum under the Cultural Spaces Program.
Mr. Preston was accompanied by the Mayor of Bayham, Lynn Acre, and museum board member KC Emmerson.
On March 23, 2007, the Municipality was approved for a grant of $14,300 under the Cultural Spaces Canada program for a feasibility study that will identify the program, physical space and design requirements, as well as estimated cost, to build and operate a new community museum.
“This funding is great for this community and Canada as a whole– with programs like Cultural Spaces we are able to preserve our past and ensure a future for this museum and community,” Preston stated.
The Municipality’s vision for the Edison Museum is to relocate the existing museum from its current site to a newly constructed facility that will meet provincial museum standards.
The Corporation of the Municipality of Bayham has owned and operated the Edison Museum since 1988. The Edison Museums’ mandate is: to preserve artifacts and archives pertaining to Thomas Edison and the history of the local community; to provide access to its collection and exhibits; and to provide for archival conservation and research.
