Middlesex County will be undertaking the construction of a new bridge across the Thames River in Dorchester, Ontario with the assistance of the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada through the Build Canada Fund – Communities Component Program. The construction of this bridge is scheduled to begin this summer with completion in the fall of 2012.
This bridge will serve as a replacement for the existing structure at Bridge Street which has a restricted weight posting and is at the end of its serviceable life. Once the new bridge has been completed at the extension of Dorchester Road, it is proposed that the existing bridge be replaced with a pedestrian structure.
On Friday July 8, 2011 please join us for a groundbreaking ceremony at the project location on the north side of the Thames River on Catherine Street just east of downtown Dorchester from 2 to 3pm. Invited are Joe Preston, MP, Steve Peters, MPP, Bev Shipley, MP, Maria Van Bommel, MPP, Joanne Vanderheyden, Warden of Middlesex County and Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc, and Jim Maudsley, Mayor of Thames Centre.
