Preston Pleased With New Cabinet
October 30, 2008

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today appointed a new federal Cabinet charged with protecting Canadians in a time of increasing global economic instability.

“While the fundamentals of Canada’s economy remain stronger, more stable and more durable than those of many other nations, it is clear that we are not immune to what happens outside our borders,” said the Prime Minister. “That is why the central responsibility of our new mandate will be to ensure that Canada’s businesses and families have the security they need to weather any global economic storm.”

Joe Preston, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London stated he is “extremely pleased with the Prime Minister’s choice in cabinet members.  Gerry Ritz staying on as the Minister of Agriculture is good for the people of Elgin-Middlesex-London especially with the Tobacco exit strategy and the Economic Development Task force.”  Mr. Preston immediately contacted the Minister of Industry, The Honourable Tony Clement to discuss the closure of Sterling and St. Thomas Manufacturing. “This cabinet looks to be built with the economic difficulties of our riding in mind” said Preston.

Members of Parliament return to Ottawa November 18th and Joe is looking forward to returning to work in the House of Commons.
