Private members bill tabled to scrap long gun registry
February 09, 2009

Earlier today, Garry Breitkreuz, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville tabled a private members bill to end the Long Gun Registry.

The Bill contains provisions that will not only end the Long Gun Registry, but make necessary changes to the exorbitant costs associated with the Firearms Act by increasing the efficiency of government.

MP Joe Preston stated that “this Bill is long overdue.  There has been no evidence showing that the registry produced any public safety benefits but instead has cost the public over $2 Billion on a registry that is inaccurate.”

Preston plans to fully support Breitkreuz's Bill and commends his colleague for his exhaustive study on this issue that will repeal the requirement to register long-guns.
